A Message Has Arrived for You

These are God's promises for you today:

"Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit."

Are you exhausted from trying to make something work in your own strength?

Here is what Scripture helps us understand:

“Might” often points to external resources: money, connections, and circumstances.

“Power” points to internal resources: your talent, energy, discipline, and ability.

God is saying that neither external resources nor inner capacity is enough to accomplish what truly needs to be done. What is ultimately required is His Spirit.

This does not mean we stop working or let go of our responsibilities. We still plan, work, and take action. When we do so, it is His Spirit that will bring the fulfillment of God’s will.

“By my own strength” often sounds like:

  • “I have to figure out every step before I take the first move.”

  • “If this fails, it is all on me.”

  • “I must make this work no matter what.”

“By God’s Spirit” sounds like:

  • “I do not see the whole picture, but I will take the next step God is showing me.”

  • “The outcome is not mine to control. I will trust God with the results.”

  • “I will do my part faithfully, and I will depend on God to do what only He can do.”

So always remember this:

You do not have to carry all of this alone.

Take the step God is showing you.

Trust Him with the results.

The Story Behind The Verse: By My Spirit, Begin Again
Zechariah 4:6 - Story Behind the Verse

In 538 BC, after seventy years of exile in Babylon, the Jewish exiles finally returned to Jerusalem. They came home with hope, determined to rebuild the temple and restore what had been lost.

But the moment they arrived, reality set in. The temple lay in ruins, and the city walls were broken down. They had no money, no materials, and no workforce. On every side, surrounding nations opposed them.

Zerubbabel was the governor responsible for rebuilding the temple. In 536 BC, the foundation was laid, a moment marked by both celebration and sorrow. The people shouted with joy, while the older generation, who remembered Solomon's original temple, wept because this foundation seemed so small in comparison.

Then opposition rose, discouragement spread, and official complaints were sent to the Persian king. A decree was issued to halt construction. For sixteen years, progress stalled. The foundation sat exposed to the elements, a visible reminder of a promise still waiting to be fulfilled.

Why did the work cease? The conditions were not favorable. The opposition was strong. The resources were few. Zerubbabel and the people waited for circumstances to change, hoping for a better moment and a clearer path.

In 520 BC, God sent the prophets Haggai and Zechariah. Through Zechariah, the Lord spoke to Zerubbabel, "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit." Then came the promise: "Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!"

What was God saying? Though the conditions are not perfect, My Spirit will make all things possible. Take up the work again, and do not delay. Today, God is telling us the same message. He is asking to rely on His Spirit, to not give up, and to begin again.

What It Means

"Not by might" (לֹא בְחַיִל / lo bechayil)

"Might" is the Hebrew word chayil, meaning the kind of strength that comes from resources, influence, and power. It refers to strength, wealth, and armies. "There is no king saved by the multitude of an army" (Psalm 33:16). God is saying that external resources alone cannot accomplish His purposes.

"Nor by power" (וְלֹא בְכֹחַ / velo bekoach)

"Power" is the Hebrew word koach, meaning strength, ability, and capacity. This refers to human capability: our talent, skill, and competence. God is saying that human ability alone cannot accomplish His purposes.

"But by My Spirit" (כִּי אִם־בְּרוּחִי / ki im beruchi)

"Spirit" is the Hebrew word ruach, meaning wind, breath, and spirit. This is God's presence and power at work. What is impossible for humans becomes possible when the Spirit of God moves. The question then is not whether you have enough resources, but whether you are relying on His Spirit. Are you depending on God's Spirit to accomplish what He has promised you?

Claim This Promise

I declare that the words of Zechariah 4:6 are true in my life.

  • I will not wait for perfect conditions. I will begin again today.
  • I will take the next step God is showing me.
  • God's Spirit will do what my strength cannot.
  • I will faithfully do my part and trust God with the outcome.
Today's Prayer

God,

I have been trying to do this in my own strength. I have been carrying the weight of making it all work. I have been waiting for conditions to be right.

Today, I hear Your word: Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.

I will not wait any longer for perfect conditions. I will begin again today. When you show me the next step, I will take it. I will faithfully do my part and trust You with the outcome.

When I face mountains that will not move, I trust Your promise: the mountains will become plains.

Thank You that Your Spirit is at work right now, doing what my strength cannot do.

In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
