The Story Behind The Verse: Moses' Discovery in the Wilderness

Psalm 90 is the only psalm attributed to Moses. The superscription calls it 'A Prayer of Moses the man of God.' Moses starts Psalm 90 about how everlasting and almighty God is before he delves into how the lives of humans in contrast is so fleeting. He speaks of the wrongdoings of the Israelites being so apparent before God. He then asks God to have compassion on his people and show his glory and favor.
Moses' words show the heart of a leader. Moses was the leader chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and guide them through the wilderness for 40 years. When the Israelites came out of Egypt, some complained that they wanted to go back to Egypt. They complained about their life in the wilderness. They even rebelled against God. As a leader, Moses faced all kinds of trials and tribulations. Even when the Israelites questioned Moses' authority, Moses was the kind of leader who humbled himself and went before God in prayer. As a shepherd cares for the sheep, Moses cared for the Israelites as he asks God to always be with His people and bless them. In his prayer, Moses prayed, "Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days."
What It Means
"Satisfy us in the morning" (שַׂבְּעֵנוּ בַּבֹּקֶר / sab'enu baboker)
The Hebrew saba means to fill completely, to satisfy fully. Boker means dawn, morning, the fresh start of a new day. And Moses prays that God would completely satisfy us at the start of a new day. When you begin your day with God, reading His Word and praying, He fills you so there is no lack.
"With your loving kindness" (חַסְדֶּךָ / chasdekha)
The Hebrew chesed means covenant love, faithful love. This is God's committed, never-changing love for His people. Chesed is the love God promised in covenant. The love that sustained Israel through 40 years in the wilderness. The love He shows regardless of your circumstances. This love, received fresh every morning, is what satisfies the soul.
"That we may rejoice and be glad" (וּנְרַנְּנָה וְנִשְׂמְחָה / unrannenah venismechah)
The Hebrew samach means to rejoice, to experience inner joy. Ranan means to shout for joy, to sing aloud, to express gladness outwardly. This means both inner and outer joy. Deep satisfaction in your heart that overflows into visible gladness. This is the result of morning encounters with God's loving kindness. When you receive His love in the morning, it produces joy that lasts throughout the day.
