Mark 11:24 verse card

A Message Has Arrived for You

These are God's promises for you today:

"All things whatever you pray and ask for"

"Believe that you have received them"

"You shall have them"

Have you ever prayed earnestly for something but seen no visible change? When you find yourself in this situation, what do you do?

Jesus teaches us to pray and believe that we have received it. He calls us to trust that God has heard our prayers and is already at work even when circumstances have not changed. This is faith grounded in who God is, His character, His promises, and His faithfulness.

So remember:

When you pray in faith, God hears and begins working.

Trust in God and His promises.

The result will come in His timing, in the way He knows is best for you.

Deep Dive

The Story Behind The Verse: The Withered Fig Tree
Mark 11:24 - Story Behind the Verse

Mark 11 records an incident that Jesus used to teach about prayer and faith.

Jesus and His disciples were walking from Bethany to Jerusalem. Jesus was hungry and saw a fig tree covered in leaves. He went looking for fruit but found none. So He said, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again" (Mark 11:14). Then they walked on.

The next morning, they passed by the same tree. Peter was shocked: "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" (Mark 11:21). Completely dried up from the roots.

Jesus used this moment to teach about prayer. He said in verse 24, "Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them."

What was Jesus teaching? There was a time gap between His word and the visible result. When Jesus spoke to the tree and walked away, nothing looked different, but the process had already started. By the next morning, it was visible.

Prayer works the same way. When you pray in faith, God begins working immediately. You just have not seen the result yet.

So "believe that you have received them" means: When you pray according to God's will, you can be confident God has heard you and is already at work.

Pray and trust in God. The visible result will come in His perfect way and timing.

What It Means

"Believe that you have received them" (πιστεύετε ὅτι ἐλάβετε / pisteuete hoti elabete)

The Greek pisteuo means to believe, to trust, to have confidence in. Lambano means to receive, to take hold of. Here is what is interesting: Elabete is aorist tense, past tense. With this tense, it means "you have received." Jesus is saying: Believe it is already done, even before you see any changes. This is about trusting God's character. You believe because you know God is faithful and keeps His promises.

"And you shall have them" (καὶ ἔσται ὑμῖν / kai estai hymin)

The Greek estai is in future tense: "It will be." This is a promise. When you pray in faith, trusting in God's character and purposes, you will have what you asked for. Hebrews 11:1 defines this kind of faith: "Faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen."

Claim This Promise

I declare that the words of Mark 11:24 are true in my life.

  • When I pray according to God's will, He hears me.
  • I believe He is already working to answer my prayer.
  • The result will come in His perfect timing.
  • The result will come in the way He knows is best for me.
Today's Prayer

God,

Thank You for being a God who hears and answers.

I have often measured Your response by what I can see. When circumstances do not change quickly, I doubt. When nothing looks different, I wonder if You heard me.

Today, You are teaching me a different way to pray. I will believe I have received even before I see any changes. I will believe this because I know You are faithful.

When I pray according to Your will, I will trust You are already at work. Even when nothing looks different, You are at work behind-the-scenes.

Give me faith that rests in Your character and trusts Your timing.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
