The Story Behind The Verse: The Impossible Made Possible

A rich young man came to Jesus and asked, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" (Mark 10:17). He had everything: wealth, status, and moral devotion. Yet the young man sensed he was missing something.
Jesus looked at him and loved him. Then Jesus said, "One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me" (Mark 10:21). The man's face fell. He went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
The disciples were shocked. Jesus then said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God" (Mark 10:23-25).
The disciples were astonished. In the prevailing belief of their society, wealth was a sign of God's blessing. If even the rich could not enter the Kingdom of God, who could? They asked, "Then who can be saved?" (Mark 10:26).
Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God." Jesus was talking about salvation. No human effort can earn it. No amount of wealth, status, or moral devotion can achieve it. Salvation depends entirely on what God did for us. He sent His Beloved Son Christ to die on the cross on our behalf. Salvation is freely given, rooted in God's grace, love, and mercy.
Through salvation, our relationship with God was restored, Christ's victory over death became our victory, and we were given the promise of eternal life. What was impossible for men, God made possible. He already granted us our greatest victory. So every day, we go out knowing that all things are possible with God.
What It Means
"With men it is impossible" (παρὰ ἀνθρώποις ἀδύνατον / para anthrōpois adynaton)
"With men" is the Greek phrase para anthrōpois, meaning on the side of humans, in the human realm. "Impossible" is the Greek word adynaton, meaning powerless, unable. Jesus is stating that some things are genuinely beyond human power.
"But not with God" (ἀλλ᾽ οὐ παρὰ θεῷ / all' ou para theō)
"But" is the Greek word alla, introducing a complete contrast. "With God" is para theō, meaning on God's side, in God's realm. This is a completely different dimension from the human realm. What is impossible in your realm is possible in God's realm.
"All things are possible with God" (πάντα γὰρ δυνατὰ παρὰ τῷ θεῷ / panta gar dynata para tō theō)
"All" is the Greek word panta, meaning every single thing. "Possible" is the Greek word dynata, meaning able or within power. Jesus is describing God's unlimited capability in contrast to human limitation. So when you reach your limits, this verse calls you to trust the God whose power has no ceiling and whose purposes are always good.
Claim This Promise
I declare that the words of Mark 10:27 are true in my life.
- • With me it is impossible, but not with God.
- • All things are possible with God.
- • Where my strength ends, God's work begins.
- • My "I cannot" becomes His moment to show that "He can."
Today's Prayer
God,
I have tried everything. I have exhausted every option.
I confess I have been trying to solve everything in my own strength. Every time I failed, I blamed myself and limited what You are capable of based on my past experiences.
Today, I lift up to You every situation where I have said "There is nothing more I can do." If there is something I can do, give me clarity and wisdom to see it. And the rest, especially the situations that remain unresolved, I place them all in your hands.
As Jesus said, I believe this is true: "With men it is impossible, but all things are possible with God."
My limit is precisely where Your power begins. Whenever I reach my limit, may I see how you are working in various areas of my life.
From today, whenever I meet my limits, I will confess in faith: "Now it is God's time." I will look to Your power with expectation.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
