The Story Behind The Verse: When God Split the Sea

After God had performed miracles through the ten plagues, Pharaoh had finally decided to let the Israelites go. The Israelites prepared to leave Egypt and were on their way to freedom.
But then they came to the Red Sea. In front of them was an impassable body of water. Behind them, Pharaoh had changed his mind and was now chasing them with his entire army. There was nowhere to escape. The Israelites were completely trapped. They panicked and cried out in terror. In this moment of absolute despair, when every option was exhausted, Moses spoke these words, "Do not be afraid. Stand still. Watch God work."
Then God did what only He could do. He split the Red Sea in two, creating a path through the water with walls on both sides. The Israelites walked through the dry ground. When the Egyptian army tried to follow, God brought the waters crashing down, and they were destroyed.
The impossible situation became the stage for God's greatest deliverance. The people praised of what God had done and sang,"God has gloriously triumphed."
What It Means
"Do not be afraid" (אַל־תִּירָאוּ / al-tira'u)
The Hebrew al-tira'u is a command meaning "stop being afraid" or "do not continue to fear." This is addressed to people who are already terrified. God is not denying the reality of the threat. He is commanding them to stop letting fear control their response.
"Stand still" (הִתְיַצְּבוּ / hityatzvu)
The Hebrew hityatzvu means to take your stand, to hold your ground. It is a command to stop running and stop panicking. God calls you to plant your feet where you are and watch what He is about to do.
"See the salvation of Yahweh" (וּרְאוּ אֶת־יְשׁוּעַת יְהוָה / ur'u et-yeshu'at YHWH)
The Hebrew ra'ah means to see, to look at, to witness. The word yeshu'ah means salvation, deliverance, victory. God is telling you to watch Him save you. Open your eyes to see the path He is creating even when it seems impossible.
"Yahweh will fight for you" (יְהוָה יִלָּחֵם לָכֶם / YHWH yilachem lakhem)
The Hebrew lacham means to fight, to do battle. God Himself is entering the battlefield. This is not you fighting with God's help. This is God fighting while you watch. The battle is not yours to win. It is His.
Claim This Promise
I declare that the words of Exodus 14:13-14 are true in my life.

- I will stand still and watch God work.
- The Lord will fight for me.
- I will be still and let God do what only He can do.
Today's Prayer
God,
I am facing a difficult situation right now. The problems I am facing are more than I can handle on my own. I have tried every option and there is no way out.
I have been fearful and anxious about this. I have been panicking, trying desperately to fix this on my own. But today I receive Your word to stop being afraid.
I choose to stand still. I have done my very best and now I wait for how you will work in my life. I believe that You will fight for me. This battle is not mine to win. It is Yours.
Open my eyes to see the path You are creating even when it seems impossible. Just as You split the Red Sea for the Israelites, You will make a way where there is no way for me.
I place my situation in Your hands. Fight for me, Lord. I will stand still and watch You work.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
